The Trust was created to provide a permanent memorial to outstanding politician, the Rt Hon John Smith QC, MP, who died in May 1994.
Outstanding leaders and agents of change with proven abilities in politics, government, the media, civil society and private sector.
It is thanks to the support of our donors that the Trust has been able to attract the most talented individuals and build a world class alumni network.
On 13th May 1994, the day after the Rt Hon John Smith QC MP died, Andrew Marr wrote a tribute in the Independent newspaper:
Nazira Sheraly, is a businesswoman and advocate for gender equality from Kyrgyzstan and started the first ‘Lean in Circle’ in Central Asia.
The Trust’s first ever Central Asian Fellowship Programme finished in December 2017. The fellows have been busy sharing their JST experience since returning to their homes with their colleagues and wider communities.
