Leyla is the executive director of the Women’s Association for Rational Development (WARD), a non-profit and non-governmental women’s organization. WARD’s mission is based on the belief that full democracy, justice and development cannot be reached if there is any distinction, exclusion or restriction made on the basis of gender, age, religion, ethnicity and affiliation. Leyla is responsible for supervising WARDS’s projects implemented within the framework of the priority programmes of the organisation: gender equality, healthcare, economic development and peace-building.
Leyla is a graduate of Azerbaijan State Economic University and alumna of Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX) administered by American Councils.
Leyla’s action plan has a broad remit to empower young girls and women, particularly by enhancing their ability to access educational opportunities. It will focus initially on the town of Agstafa, but seeks in time to offer a model for other towns and communities in Azerbaijan. Her overall aim is to contribute to empowerment of women in Azerbaijan.
