Dr Iulian Fruntasu

In November 2011, Iulian was appointed as Moldovan Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

He was previously Foreign Policy Adviser to the Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat and prior to this was Project Manager for the OSCE Mission to Serbia at the Training Centre in Novi Pazar. The primary purpose of this two-year project was to enhance security in the Sandzak region through an OSCE presence on the ground, liaising with local actors, monitoring and reporting on political and security developments and carrying out projects that contribute to improving tolerance, dialogue and stability.

At the time of the 2006 Fellowship Programme, Iulian was Director of the European Initiatives Programme for the Soros Foundation Moldova. The aim of the European Initiatives Programme is to support Moldova’s European integration. Iulian was responsible for the planning, co-ordination and implementation of this Programme.

He has been a Lecturer in Political Sciences and International Relations at the Institute of Political Studies and International Relations in Moldova. He is also a former diplomat involved in arms-control issues and a member of missions of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe to Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia. He is a noted author of several books and articles, providing political commentary on democratic development and international relations.
