Rustam is Project Assistant at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
The FAO leads international efforts to defeat hunger and acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet to negotiate agreements and debate policy. FAO helps developing countries and countries in transition to modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all.
The FAO is currently implementing two projects in the North Caucasus region:
1) “Support to the restoration of rural livelihoods of the most vulnerable conflict affected households through the promotion of small scale agriculture activities” - the objective of this project is to generate sustainable income at household level and improve food security of the most vulnerable rural population of Chechnya through resumption of agriculture activities.
2) “Sustainable Integration and Recovery in North Ossetia-Alania” – jointly implemented by four UN agencies - UNHCR, UNDP, ILO and FAO. The goal of the FAO component of the project is to develop a professional human-centred and resource-based agricultural extension services in the republic.
Rustam is responsible for the operational implementation of the FAO component of the joint project “Sustainable Integration and Recovery in North Ossetia-Alania”.
In addition, Rustam is a Member of the Boardof Founders of the Chechen NGO Laman AZ. This NGO implements a Mine Action Programme in the Chechen Republic, supporting mine victims and lobbing for a start to the de-mining processes.
