Maryam Al Manaseer is Head of Media at the Department of Health and Editor of a live TV morning show devoted to health issues. Over the past decade she has pioneered professional public relations and communications activity at the Bahraini Ministry of Health. Maryam’s TV reportage on women’s health has brought her the Queen Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Award. The documentary will be screened at the Dubai International Film Festival in December 2014. Maryam is also involved in programmes run by the Al Rashad Centre of the Bahrain Association for Intellectual Disability and Autism, which provides care to autistic children aged 12 and under.
Maryam’s Action Plan is focused on overcoming social discrimination in Bahrain and draws on her vast expertise in the strategic communication of public health policy. As a John Smith Fellow she will focus on establishing structures to facilitate public health and social care policy and advocacy development. To achieve this Maryam hopes to set up an advisory committee of experts charged with producing policy and practice recommendations to address the problems of child abuse and care of children with special psychological needs
