Nazar Al Ibrahim
Dr Nazar Al Ibrahim is a Lecturer and Researcher at Hawler Medical University in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. His research focuses on public health and he has collaborated with the Ministry of Health to design and implement various projects. He has played an important role in the development of medical education research in Iraq, a field that was largely neglected until recently. Prior to working in academia, Nazar held the position of Field Officer at the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) where he was responsible for designing and implementing humanitarian and health programmes for vulnerable citizens and internally displaced persons (IDPs). He played an integral role in the creation of three IDP camps, assisting thousands of displaced people.
Nazar’s Action Plan seeks to establish a research and advocacy working group for women’s health and violence against women. Maternal mortality rates are high, as is violence against women and problems such as female genital mutilation remain unaddressed. By working with universities, government and civil society, Nazar hopes resources will be made available to tackle such issues.
