Tariq Hassoon is the Media and Documenting Officer for the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra and has vast experience in using music and art as a tool for conflict mitigation.He is also currently working as a Production Officer at the International Committee of the Red Cross and is Board Member at Burj Babel for Media and Cultural Development - part of the Cultural Leadership Program with the British Council, Lebanon
Tariq has previously worked at the Peace through Art Academy in Baghdad and the International Relief and Development Headquarters in Virginia, USA. He is also a participant of the Cultural Innovators Network at the Goethe Institute in Germany and a Leaders of Democracy Fellow at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in the USA.
Tariq believes that by engaging young people as active citizens that he can strengthen their general awareness of Rule of Law and tolerance. Tariq’s action plan is titled Civil Society through Art, his aim is to develop a programme that will engage young people not only in music and art but also in developing skills such as event planning, management, coordination, media, communications and leadership. By involving children from all socio-economic, ethnic and religious backgrounds Tariq aims to empower young people in civil society and bring together divided communities.
