Dana Said Shuqom
Dana Said Shuqom is the Country Director of the Jordanian branch of AMIDEAST, an American non-profit organisation engaged in international education, training and development activities in the Middle East and North Africa. Dana oversees a diverse portfolio that includes scholarships and exchange programmes, English language tuition, professional development, capacity building training and entrepreneurship projects. She is UK Chevening Fellow and Fulbright scholar through which she has obtained graduate degrees in both the UK and USA.
Dana is keen to promote women’s empowerment in Jordan. In 2008 her Woman-To-Woman project, which provided orphaned female youth with professional and life skills training as well as mentorship, won the World Bank's Youth Innovation Award. Her Action Plan builds upon this work by designing an awareness and advocacy campaign to challenge attitudes and promote the role of women in Arab society, focusing in particular on women’s economic rights such as access to work, access to income and inheritance rights.
In March 2014 Dana was awarded the “World of Difference 100”Award, and invited to become a Global Ambassador of The International Alliance for Women. You can read more about her awards here.
