Ghaith Al Amaireh

“University campus demonstrations and violence can often be indicative of wider divisions in a society and the history of student politics in the UK will provide a good background for the action plan that Ghaith wants to implement.” Brian Brivati, Academic Programme Director

Ghaith Al Amaireh joined the Political Affairs Directorate in the Office of His Majesty King Abdullah II as a Policy Analyst in April 2012. His duties include liaison and coordination with Jordan’s legislative, executive and judicial authorities, and maintaining the necessary political link between His Majesty the King and the central government. Ghaith previously worked for the Office of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah as a Community Outreach Senior Officer where he concentrated on education, public health and community development. He has also been part of a team that has recently established the Independent Election Commission and Constitutional Court in Jordan.

In response to increasing levels of violent behaviour across a number of Jordanian universities, Ghaith’s action plan aims to reduce violence in universities and in society as a whole by tackling what he believes are its root causes, poverty and injustice. He is using an awareness campaign to highlight the effects of violence as a social problem but eventually hopes to see the principles of tolerance and openness introduced into the national curricula of Jordan.
