Marina Chamma is a blogger and freelance writer. She launched her own blog in 2011, Eye on the East, which covers history, politics, society and culture in Lebanon and the Arab World. Her work has been published in a variety of European online publications, and has featured in one of Lebanon’s leading national newspapers. Marina holds a BA in Political Science from the American University of Beirut and an MSc in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics, and is currently working as an economist in Beirut. She has previously worked as an Economic Researcher at Lebanon’s Central Bank and as an Assistant to the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations in Vienna.
Marina’s Action Plan builds upon her blogging work to promote the development of civil society in Lebanon. She has run a series of workshops at universities to spread the culture of blogging and highlight its importance as a tool to raise awareness. Marina hopes to galvanise momentum and mobilise civil society, by coordinating with other bloggers, to raise awareness about wider issues such as corruption and gender equality.
