Fatma Al Ajmi
Fatma Al-Ajmi is an Economic Statistician at the Directorate General of Economic Affairs in the Omani Department of Economic Policy.
Fatma has been working in the Ministry of National Economy since 2005, however she has only been in her current post since May 2012. After graduating with a BSc in Business Statistics she initially entered the Ministry working as a Social Statistician. During a secondment to UNICEF, from 2008-2009, Fatma realised she was more interested in economic analysis than social statistics and so she studied for an MSc in Statistics at Nottingham University, graduating with merit in 2012. In 2011 she was transferred to the Department of National Accounts where she worked as an Economic Statistician, preparing booklets and evaluating variables used to calculate Oman´s GDP. Whilst doing this she also began lecturing at Sultan Qaboos University in Business Statistics. Fatma´s current work is to review the economic studies of the Supreme Council for Planning and give her feedback on their reports, as well as carrying out more general economic analysis.
Fatma´s Action Plan has produced an in-depth analysis of the Economics and the Police Force in Oman. The aim of the report is two fold; first as a way of giving the Government a clear insight into policy and current economic situation in Oman, and second to be a useful teaching tool for Fatma´s students.
