Our journalism school offers post-graduate courses in journalism that provide excellent prior knowledge and experience. Taking a journalism course with us will give you the best training in England. We have been training journalists since 2001 – we have all the experience and knowledge you need.
Postgraduate courses offer one of the best routes into modern journalism. Journalism is changing rapidly, and we make sure that our students fully understand what is required today and tomorrow so that everyone can maximize their chances of achieving their personal goal.
Why?
These courses are well known in the UK and around the world for training the highest level of journalists. On average, about half of our students come to us on specific recommendations from newspapers, broadcasters and individuals working in the field.
However, not all of our students want to be journalists. This course is also chosen by those for whom knowledge and understanding of journalism is a great asset – PR, politics and advertising are just some of the professions whose representatives can be sent to our courses.
When?
The course can start either in March or September.
The course consists of 4 modules, each lasting from 20 to 24 weeks.
If the modules are taken consecutively, the course can be taken within two years of enrollment. Alternatively, you can take the course in one year if you study two modules in parallel.
How the course works:
Enrollment for this course runs through September and March of each year.
The full course (four modules) is taught over two academic years, and if successful, you will receive a post-graduate diploma in journalism. You must complete the entire course within two years of your initial enrolment to qualify for the PG Diploma. Modules must be taken in the order given at registration.
Students also receive audio lectures that can be downloaded and listened to at their own pace before each online lecture. At the end of each module, students take an exam in the online exam room.
Textbooks and Assignments
You will do an average of one study guide per month and one lecture per week, approximately 5 to 8 hours (total) of reading, research, and writing assignments each week.
You will have a deadline of one week in which to complete and submit your individual assignments, and you will be penalized for those received late.
You are also expected to achieve at least 85% “attendance” in lectures.
Instructors are recruited from our existing “pool” of mentors, all of whom are working journalists with excellent credentials and at least 15 years of experience in the journalism industry. Personal tutors will also be available for email support between lectures and tutorials. Information about some of our current instructors can be found on our website.
